My Journey

My Journey from Childhood to College

Newborn

Newborn...

All of sudden there was a big celebration in the family and relatives, because a son was born after two sisters and I was surprised thinking that I am going to be crowned as a king of India. But all of a sudden there was a silent in the room and my father saw six fingers in my both hands, so went into shock thinking how he will join Indian Army, so being an Army officer he held a blade and cut my two finger from hands. There was a pool of blood like a fountain everywhere. I must have screamed or cried but all in vain, finally he got his Army Officer ready after chopping off his two fingers from hands. So this was the first gift of my father to me. My mother cried but, no-one could speak in front of him.

Another shock

Another shock...

Next day my father found out that I had two more extra fingers in my feet also, this time my mother opposed the move, but he was not going to listen anyone, so he took his blade and cut my two fingers from my feet to make me normal. I still think that no human has the power to change the will of GOD, when he gives any extra parts of the body to human he becomes "The EXTRA- Ordinary", which my father couldn't understand. My father didn't have any right to go against the will of GOD. Anyway now I was completely normal child in his eyes, and ready to be crowned.

Childhood

Childhood Begins...

So finally out of 24 fingers, I sacrificed my four fingers or gave my birthday present to my father. The next thing my parents were supposed to do my name ceremony, so lot of people suggested different names, however my father didn't like a single. My father was in Indian Army and grandfather was a landlord who had five sons, one from my first grandmother and four were from my second and real grandmother. My father was the youngest of four.

My father and his elder brother Mr. Baljit Singh was in Army and his eldest brother Mr. Amar Singh was with Mr. Subhash Chandra Bose in Indian National Army. So finally my eldest uncle Mr. Amar Singh suggested my name "Subhash" because Subhash Chandra Bose was his ideal, leader and inspiration. And my father happily agreed to keep my name "Subhash".

About Me

Rumours & superstitions

As soon as the news of my birth with 24 fingers spread in nearby places, all the people started making different stories about me. Someone said he is the reincarnation of some God, few said that he will be very lucky to his parents and few said that he may be an unusual child. Everyone was predicting about my future but no one actually knew that what was stored for me in the future.

Beginning

Beginning of childhood...

So as the news dies in a few days after its publication, the same thing happened with me also. My father left to serve his country and my mother started taking care of me. My mother used to love me a lot more than my sisters. I never came across such a mother who could be so partial with her children. Yes my mother was very partial with my sisters. She used to devote more time with me than my sisters, however they never felt jealous for me. They also used to love me and by taking care of me like my mother.

Beliefs

Reincarnation beliefs...

When my mother was expecting me, the old people from village used to suggest my mother to keep some God's pictures in her room, so the child will be like Him. So she kept a big childhood picture of Lord Krishna having raw butter. So when I was five months old my mother saw me eating a lot of butter from the cooking pot and started believing the superstitions of the villagers and old people, because there was a saying in our village if a lady is pregnant, she should keep some nice pictures around her and should listen some devotional music, so the child will become the same.

Journey To School

Naughty Childhood...

All of a sudden all the women from village started screaming looking at a big snake in the night who was crawling very fast towards them, suddenly my mother from behind pulled my hair and gave me a tight slap for making women scared of snake, as it was not a real snake. All of my friends used to make snake of cloth and rope dipping in mud with a thread and used to pull to make them scared.

First School

First School...

After the retirement of my father from Army he joined SBI in Delhi where he took me to Delhi for my school admission. I took admission in school directly in 6th class in Shri Baijnath Uchhtar Madhyamik Vidhyala, Hindi Medium. I never been to school before 6th class as my parents kept one tutor to teach me at home. That is how I started my school journey. I used to participate in all the cultural activities, school plays etc and there I started growing passion for acting.

Second School

Second School...

After completing my class 10th in 1985 I took admission in Govt Boys Sr Secondary School, Delhi in Arts stream as I couldn't score good marks in my board exams. So I put all my focus on the studies and thought that I have to appear some govt job to make my parents proud. I completed 12th in the year 1987 with good score and headed for college admission.

PASSION OF ACTING...

First 3 Movies of my life...

I saw first film of my life" JAI SANTOSHI MAA" with my parents. It was such an amazing experience because everything seemed so real and fascinating. My second movie was" KRANTI" in Delhi with my parents at Alankar Cinema, Lajpat Nagar which actually made me think that even I should be on the screen because it was such an amazing experience to watch all the actors on screen. I bunked my school to watch the my third movie " BANDHE HAATH", where I was introduced to "Mr. Amitabh Bachhan" not real but on screen. And that's where my journey to watch all the movies started.

More & more movies...

I used to get 2 Rs. per day In school as my pocket money. I always saved that money to watch movies. I used to go to one cheaper cinema hall" CHANDRALOK" in C.R. Park, Delhi. The ticket rate was 15 Paise front row, 40 paise middle & 60 Paise for Balcony. I used to bunk my school and used to go by walking almost 10 km. to watch the movies. I used to stand in the queue for hours to book the ticket because I always wanted to watch the movie" First Day First Show". WHENEVER I COULDN'T GET THE TICKET DUE TO HOUSE FULL/ OR SOLD OUT, I USED TO SIT FOR THREE HOURS NEAR THE EXIT GATES OF THEATRE AND USED TO HEAR STORY OF THE MOVIES IN SUNLIGHT, NOT CARING FOR HEAT, DUST OR HUNGER FOR ALL THREE HOURS.

Selling Tickets

Selling tickets in black...

Once I saved few rupees and bought three tickets of a hit film . I used to see lot of people selling tickets in black or double rate. I also thought of selling two tickets in black , so I could collect some money to watch another 4 movies . Luckily one couple was asking ticket from a person who was selling in black, I was little scared to ask them if they need ticket but finally asked and sold them a little less of double. My first & last act of black ticketeer.

My School

Class Xth - Shri Baijnath Higher Secondary School, Friends Colony - New Delhi

I didn't study till 5th class, my parents used to teach me at home, so my admission was done directly in 6th class after school principal took my test which I passed and got direct admission in class 6th in the year 1980. It was a Hindi Medium school, so I started learning ABC of English from class 6th.

My College

Class XII – Govt. Boys Senior Secondary School, Sri Niwas Puri, New Delhi

I took admission in this school in 1987 in Arts Stream as I was an average student. It was a Hindi medium school. School only for boys. Made few friends and it was an amazing time in school. Here I met my best friend Sanjay Nasa.

My College

Deshbandhu College, Kalkaji – New Delhi (1987–1990)

I joined B.A. (Honours) in History in 1987 at Deshbandhu College, Delhi University, English medium, after coming from a Hindi medium background. It was my first experience in a co-education system with 36 students in my class. During college, I used to travel on my father’s Enfield Bullet and became active in the dramatics society, participating in plays and cultural activities. I also made close friends like Sandeep Bose and Arun Datta. The period from 1987 to 1990 at Deshbandhu College was a memorable and important phase of my life.

Transformation during college life

I never drank or smoked until my second year of college, when I met Rajesh Dewan and Pranesh Mehra, who introduced me to a more social lifestyle. On 5th October 1988, at a birthday celebration of our friend Happy at Kashmiri Gate, I had my first beer, which started my occasional drinking. Around the same time, my friend Sanjay Nasa, during his internship at Le Meridien Hotel, called me late at night. When I went to pick him up, I saw him smoking, which led to an argument. However, in that moment, I also tried my first cigarette, marking another turning point in my college life.

B.A. (Hons.) in History – Deshbandhu College

I initially wanted to pursue English (Honours), but could not score well in it, so I chose B.A. (Honours) History at Deshbandhu College, Delhi University. Coming from a Hindi medium background, I completed my graduation in English medium. During college, I joined the dramatics society and actively participated in cultural activities and stage performances. I also developed an interest in modelling and created my first portfolio, shot by photographer Kitti Hazuria. Along with this, I did two modelling assignments for Data-Pro Computers and Uptron Computers, which were published in magazines like India Today and CSR, marking the beginning of my journey in modelling and creative work.

M.A. (History) – Delhi University

After completing my graduation, I took admission in M.A. (History) at Delhi University. In 1991, I left my home and started doing odd jobs in property, marketing, and sales assignments to manage my personal expenses. This was the beginning of my independent professional journey. During the same period, I started my first company named “Elements Advertising & Marketing” in 1991. I opened my office at F-7, East of Kailash, New Delhi. I began working in visual merchandising (window designing) for top brands and gradually expanded into model coordination, ad bookings, documentaries, ad films, fashion photography, and event management. This was also a very important phase in my personal life. I bought my first bike, a Yamaha RX-100, and a few months later I purchased my first car, a Maruti 800 (Deluxe) DL-3CA-3783. My friends were shocked to see me driving a car at that time, as many of them did not even own a two-wheeler. Despite building my business, I successfully completed my post-graduation alongside my professional work.

And... The Story Continues

From a humble beginning in a Hindi medium background to building a career in the creative field, every step shaped my journey. The passion that began with cinema continued to grow stronger — and the story is still unfolding.
